Kathleen Storm Photography, Painting and Writing
Paris, la vie secrète des chaises
I traveled to Paris, France in April of 2005, alone, with an old camera I love and 18 rolls of film. Painting, for me, is an expressive, color-infused study, typically of the ordinary. The process is a dialogue, a dance. Photography, on the other hand, is a contemplative study, a meditation. It is distilled, pure juxtaposition of light and shadow. It is balance of line and light, and at times a touch of social commentary. A happy accident…photographing chairs in the parks of Paris! They are photographed as I found them. First attracted by their dark lines and the shadows they formed in abstract, these compositions as a series reveal a much richer existence…conversation, contemplation, love, entanglement, solitude…and play.
